Jose "Cuko" Escapite
Austin Polo Club's Resident Professional

Jose “Cuko” Escapite has been a professional polo player and horse trainer for going on 30 years. Cuko grew up in Juarez, Mexico where he spent his youth galloping race horses for his uncles. The first time Cuko saw polo being played in Juarez he instantly fell in love with the game and dedicated the rest of his life to the sport. Polo became a family affair, blessed to be able to play alongside his son Josh, his first cousins Pelon and Ulysses, and for a short time his brother and uncle. Spending the majority of his career as a 4-goal professional based on the East Coast, Cuko has vast experience managing polo clubs and polo organizations. Cuko operated the Saratoga Polo Association in Saratoga Springs, NY for numerous years, which at that time was the second oldest continuously running club in America, as well as leasing and operating polo fields in South Florida. Cuko spent a number of years working for the polo management of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York & The SD Farms organization. Cuko has had the opportunity to play polo across the globe, winning numerous prestigious tournaments. While attending agricultural college in Juarez, Mexico a passion for agronomy & veterinary medicine developed. A lover of all things grass and soil, he has built and developed numerous polo fields across New York, Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Nigeria.
Handy with a microphone, he has announced polo games all over the world, including governors island, right under the statue of liberty, and has even done commentary for ESPN. Cuko has always enjoyed teaching the sport to others, and has brought numerous people along from their very first polo lesson to going on to play competitive polo at the 12-18 goal level.
